The Long Standing Addiction Epidemic in New Mexico

As shown above, the epidemic of drug addiction in the area is not a new one for New Mexico drug rehab centers.  While illicit drugs like heroin are a large part of the drug problem in New Mexico, there are also those who are struggling with prescription pain medications.  In fact, many who currently use heroin have arrived there from previously being on prescription pain medications.  An article from The Albuquerque Journal states that painkillers were the leading overdose death drug in 2014, and held close to half the total of overdose deaths.

Being that so many individuals are struggling with addiction to heavy drugs in New Mexico, it is important that they get a proper detoxification.  The most common types of detox that New Mexico drug rehab centers will offer are rapid detox or medical detox.  Rapid detox is where an individual is put under with anesthesia for the duration of the detox so that they do not experience the withdrawals their body is going through.  Medical detox is generally when an individual is put on some sort of medication that helps relieve the withdrawal and will be weaned off of that as they detox.  While medical detox takes a bit longer and is a bit more arduous, it tends to be the most safe and effective way to detox.  The individual will be medically monitored as they go through the detox process, and while some withdrawal symptoms will be experienced, this helps in a way to fortify the individual staying sober, being that they will not want to go through this again.

Not all New Mexico drug rehab centers are alike, and some are going to be better than others.  There are programs that offer a cookie cutter approach to addiction, and these tend to be less successful since every person is different and needs a program that will be crafted to be particular to them.  There are types of New Mexico rehab centers that are going to offer tailored programs to fit specific needs and as well as offer a sound detox.  These are the types of programs that are going to have the most success in helping an individual to long term sobriety.
