North Carolina  Drug Rehab Centers and Programs

Drug addiction has its grip all over the world and continues to take lives everyday.  It has produced its devastating effects upon the young and old alike.  One of the most deadly drugs out among the population is heroin, which is a part of the opiate family, along with prescription pain medication.  Many who were previously addicted to pain pills, end up turning to heroin due to it being cheaper and more accessible than pain pills in certain areas.

While many on a day to day basis may not interact with people who struggle with heroin, they are out there.  In fact, many do not realize how close to home this drug is hitting in areas.  There are many times they are not aware someone they know or love is struggling with this hellacious drug until it is too late, and they are needing treatment or have even overdosed.  In fact, the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) states, “From 2013 to 2014, heroin overdose death rates increased by 26%, with more than 10,500 people dying in 2014.”

The North Carolina Heroin Epidemic

One of the areas seeing the disastrous effects that heroin produces is North Carolina.  Heroin deaths are on such a rise in North Carolina, it is being called an epidemic.  According to CBS North Carolina, the epidemic of heroin is such that law enforcement has started to carry Naloxone, which could help in decreasing the number of overdose deaths.  Naloxone essentially is a drug that can be used when someone is overdosing, and can save their life.  They are also working on creating a program that will route the individuals to North Carolina rehab centers, rather than making it an issue of criminality and punishing them.

The willingness of the individual to get help could play a role in the amount of overdose deaths.  When an individual does not realize they need drug rehab, or plain do not want it, they continue to use which then could end up in them overdosing.  While involuntary commitment to a treatment center does not always work, it very well would be better than not receiving treatment.

Intervention is always an option where unwillingness is an issue.  Intervention is essentially a gathering of the individuals friends and family, along with a discussion with the addict, for the purpose of convincing the person to attend treatment.  Unfortunately, intervention is not always successful, but many times can also be the tipping point of getting the individual to get help.  It is generally a good idea to have a treatment center arranged and ready for the individual prior to the actual intervention.  Some North Carolina treatment facilities may even help by referring or arranging an intervention.  This way if the intervention is successful, the individual can go straight to a treatment center that has been arranged beforehand.  Do not ever rule out intervention as an option, and ask a center about it if you feel it may be what is needed.
